Brønnum also offers a creative and sincere imagination. His poems don’t just sit on the page stagnant without thoughts or feelings. His poems are in motion and full of life.

Review by LB Sedlacek

This new book of poems is cleverly divided into four sections:  There and Here, Here, Here and There, There.  It gives one food for thought wondering what’s contained in each one and how they may fit together separately and as a whole unit.

The book begins with a unique comparison and differentiation between clouds and trees.  A poem about thoughts as clothes on a clothesline follows giving deep introspection as to the haphazard nature of thinking.  Brønnum continues forth with several more subjects of all kinds in this new collection.

Brønnum also offers a creative and sincere imagination.  His poems don’t just sit on the page stagnant without thoughts or feelings.  His poems are in motion and full of life.

From the poem “Starry Night (van Gogh)”
“The roar is immense, the sound waves
setting in motion this cosmos, this noise in your ear
stinging like dark green trees
much taller than spires, but not as alive
not as blessed, not as missed, not as uncertain
not as desperate, not as screaming, not as far away”

Brønnum’s voice seems to reminisce and to reverberate throughout each verse, each line.  He captures moments and ideas that go beyond the surface of the poem.  This gives the book character.

It is so easy for the reader to immerse themselves in the poems.  The poet is able to illuminate his theme and punctuate his poems with such meaning.  This makes the book quite readable.

There is a lot of texture to the book.  And there are so many layers to be discovered.

The poems are spaced out well.  Each one seems to reveal another experience.

Reading “A Little Book of Transcendence” is almost an unveiling of one poet’s identity based on his verse and lines.  There is a smart use of space and words.

Jakob Brønnum’s book is one of more than one dimension.  It is full, vibrant and connects the reader to his words.  It is a breathlessly powerful book to read.  Brønnum is definitely a poet in motion.
