Rhodes-Ryabchich offers a mixture of formal and free verse poetry in this new poetry book which shows strength in its message starting with the first poem, a sonnet entitled “Sonnet for a Single Mother with Daughter.”  This book overall gives a sense of going on a journey of sorts and also offers somewhat of a comfort all at once – it’s as if the poems will be with you every step on your way.

These poems rise to the occasion, so to speak, and Rhodes-Ryabchich shows adept skill with her verses.  The poems are thoughtful.  She gives us a new way of looking at the world.

Reading this poetry book gives one the experience of poetry.  The revelations in each poem are beautiful and revealing.  The subjects tackled within are enlightening.

From the title poem:  “Dear Blue Harp Strumming Sky”
“Morning after snow fell,
We are layered like star soft blush,
Of cotton, pink-tar skin. I can see
Your strong ribs like a skeleton
Of the human mind, rippling over
The heart of this new day.”

Each poem presents a tremendously powerful voice.  Rhodes-Ryabchich writes with perfection.  These poems will leave you contemplating, they will leave you connecting thoughts and feelings, and they will leave you breathless.

From the poem:  “THE ART OF NOT GETTING STUCK”
“At 11:55 a.m., I’m thinking about the sky
And a sudden flash of a drone passing
Across my window or was it my imagination
Getting the better of me?— as I was stuck
In a stain, on the glass, then watching
The sun bloom romantic, through the winter trees.”

These poems almost present another dimension.  The poems are well-formed and you will get lost in them finding the book almost impossible to put down.  That is the sign of a good book when you want to know what comes next and you don’t want to stop reading it.

Rhodes-Ryabchich is able to seamlessly blend her own experiences, observations, and more capturing this creative essence into each of her poems.  Her poetry book is unique offering a vivid illustration of the heart, mind and soul of her lines and verses she’s trying to capture.
