Do you remember
When we made mistakes
It was not a death knell
How many of us are perfect
Who does not have skeletons
In their closet
 
I remember a country
That believed in 2nd chances
A land where a misspoken word
Or a deed was forgiven
Where we could continue to live
A place you could reinvent
 
Why is it now, all we want
Is to destroy people, their legacies
A prevalent cancel culture
I would love to see a reboot
A coming together, united in forgiveness
Who is willing to take the first step
 
When I lay me down to sleep
Tossing and turning looking to dream
But I can’t, but I want to
I am filled with hope
The day will come once again
Our lives can include 2nd chances
