The author takes on a fear filled subject tackling it with a quiet grace.

The first poem in this book grips you and won’t let go until the end.  The author takes on a fear filled subject tackling it with a quiet grace.  From the poem “A Wild Indolence”:  “A disease too indolent to kill quickly, / its furtive cells loll in the / lymphoid jungle, beasts / lost in the guile of sloth.”  Cancer is a savage subject, but MaÎtre deftly weaves her words in and around it facing it head on.  You will be flooded with emotions as the author lays out how to be fragile and strong at the same time.
