Chad Norman's Simona includes several poems about a cat named, Simona. No doubt, the poet reveals a capacity for strong and genuine emotion. The poet seems to be inspired from the poem “The Naming of Cats” T. S. Eliot - 1888-1965. The following lines shows Chad’s love for Simona:
From that mysterious time
she has been in a cage,
she has stared at other than boots,
she has longed for slow hands
to be the reason she could stop
and purr like other cats, cats
she always knew were alive
like the one she once saw
in the shiny front of a dishwasher,
in the kitchen of a home the humans
give since she left a past most cats
would have no chance to escape.
In love with hands, now watched,
along with the feet going by,
clad in boots, shoes, and slippers,
going by, the feet, but as touch comes
(IN LOVE WITH HANDS)
These poems reveal the poet’s capacity for emotional intensity. Here we notice the magnificent union of form and thought. The chief interest of these poems is the employment of imagery with extraordinary effectiveness. Particularly impressive is attractive diction and admirable phrasing. The style of these poems exhibits crispness and energy devoid of any obscurity. All the poetic qualities that touch the human heart are here. Liveliness is the most characteristic quality of these poems that show intense emotion and vivid imagination.
This entire book is filled with poems about cat. I love it. Fabulous poems. Great book for readers of all ages! I highly recommend this collection of poems.
