This book of poems is written In memory of Marguerite Bourgeoys, 1620-1700.  Van Der Meer tries to explore feelings and thoughts of Bourgeoys in these poems.  From poem #8:  “The best opportunities / sometimes come without / us looking for them.”  Her lines are committed to teaching us what she wants us to know or learn to know about Bourgeoys.  It’s easy to imagine that had these two women known each other or lived during the same time then they might have been colleagues or friends from the way these poems are written.  These poems are resonant and also universal.
