In Sea Burst of Soul, Diana Rubin’s poems show evidence of her keen perception. The quality of her poetic genius draws its sustenance from subjects like 'Ice Storm', 'Lighthouse', 'Grandmother', 'Ellis Island', 'Atlantic Storm', 'Christmas' and several other realities of life. Here are poems about human passion, sensations and thoughts. Diana Rubin as a poet is very rich in music and imagery:

          She held her baby

          soft and sweet.

         Her voice was low.

        Her love was deep.

He was once a little one.

        Born a king,

        but born her son.

                   (‘A Mother's Son', p. 47)

"A mother's Son" (for Mary, Mother of Jesus) 'was set to music and recorded on a Christmas album produced by Rainbow Records.' Diana has the gift of creating imaginative phrases: 'the honey tip of an arrow', 'pure nectar of emotion' (“What Poetry is"), 'the cool breeze caressing', 'the moon witnessing our abandon' ("Lost Thoughts"), 'sending scented kisses soaring', 'heaven's fading murmur' ("My Daughters"). We find a rich abundance of such enchanting phrases in Diana's Sea Burst of Soul. Another remarkable poem in the collection is "Poetic Thoughts". Diana is very vivid in providing superb word-pictures. The following lines create the effect of painting in poetry:

Poems are caroused horses dancing eternally.

             The sounds of their hooves

             conjure up unremembered feelings.

             Poems are flying pinwheel images

weighed down and tied awkwardly to

             word sticks.

                             (“Poetic Thoughts”, p. 44)

Diana has won several awards and honors for her many books of poetry. Sea Burst of Soul charms both the eye and the ear, and there is no doubt that Diana is a great and gifted artist.
