I have always enjoyed reading John Grey’s poetry. I’m not sure when I first read a poem by him, but when I come across his works in various publications I read I know I can always expect something good. I am always reading, I love to read poetry as well as a variety of books such as mysteries, thrillers, science-fiction, and non-fiction. I firmly believe to be a good poet or writer you must be a good reader, too so I’m always happy to find a poet’s work I like to follow and enjoy such as Grey’s.
CL Bledsoe gives us some very personal poems in this new collection. He writes about life, maybe his own in a very relatable poems of Americana using lines such as “Dad dragged me along to fetch / things I couldn’t carry” (from his title poem).
This new collection of poems is laid out into eight sections. The first one is entitled “Eternity Begins.” That really makes the reader wonder where exactly will these poems start out and what will they be about. If you’re going to use sections, and section titles in your poetry book, they do become a part of the cohesiveness of said book.
j. lewis has written poems of good and bad memories, love and loss in this new poetry book. The opening poem gives the hope of being able to come home and find a light on, for real or metaphorically. The poet aims, according to the introduction, to write poems “to be a light.”
D Everett Newell at the outset of the collection shows his entrancing visions to the reader depicting a hope where we could get a 2nd chance to repair the mistakes committed by us in our lives. The poet strongly believes that such a day will surely come in life where 2nd chances would be given. The spontaneous writings entangled with realistic events are remarkable throughout the book quite evident in A Purity in Winter, A First Poem, Family, and many others.
Joseph Hart has put together a nice book of free verse and some rhyming poems in this new collection. The poems are short and to the point, but sometimes that’s nice when you’re reading poetry because the old adage “more is less” can really come to play in a good way in a well written verse or two.
