“Is there no way out? We have messed up the planet and face extinction!”  His question demands answers, guys and we all are responsible for this.  “Man is a practiced, willful murderer, has always been one and will never change!, and We find reasons to kill”  These are perfect statements to prove his point and are validated on how we kill insects, animals, etc. for our survival and safety.  His writings on How many Species will survive, Will I still be alive? are worth reading.  He has skillfully written on different species like Earthworm, Daddy Long Legs, Cricket, Snakes, Turtles, Hummingbird, Turkeys, Mouse, Hare, Seals, Coyote, Rhinos, Bear. Wordplay in these poems is just mind blowing.  Geza, I have very well understood your plea to “Listen to our children who plead for their future”, and I am sure by reading your work, our Readers too will understand it.

The theme of this collection is really self-explanatory.  You talk about climate change, environment, and extinction and if we don’t change and don’t put any efforts to save our environment, we and only we will be the losers.  Your message to all of us is very clear – if we don’t save our environment, we will be bound to be extinct!

Your poems Pollination & There are too many of us on this earth, and The Hare along with several other writings have been published in other literary journals in Canada and USA, as well.  This truly deserves an applause and we appreciate your efforts you have taken on writing these.  May many more join soon in many more anthologies and publications. You also have several other collections of poems and books to your credit and that is very appreciable.

I found it very humbling of the fact that you have dedicated your book to your Son, Nicholas who is into promoting a sustainable world.  I think, we Readers need to applaud Nicholas and pray that his efforts gain even more momentum so that all of us get to stay within an environmentally safe surrounding.

Your feelings about the worldly calamities, famines, droughts, wars, water, hurricane, storms, air and environmental pollution, due to plastics and chemicals, deforestation, etc. are very well penned in your Often Wonder When I See and Frolicking Flames Detritus Desecrates the Landand your concern on how will our grandchildren survive is very laudable. Your lines “Finally it rained again in the night; when will it pour again for days on end, when will this intolerable drought end?” in your poem express your happiness at the onset of rains coming as a breather to the cracked earth, scorching fields, and parched living beings.  Your waiting for the spring as in Polar Vortex seems very genuine to me.

Your lines “The stream slips by from source to sea like human life from birth to death” are very philosophical.  The entire crux of life is in these lines.  I loved your skill of beginning to write your  poetry along with its title.  This, Geza, is something very unique of you.

Scarcity of Clean Waterso vital, so scarce, I die of thirst” a world-wide issue is described in so few lines.  That’s your masterstroke.  Some thoughtful lines, “The sky weeps with woe; we have polluted the air, the land and the sea” in Haiku: the sky weeps with woe. “I am sorry, my son we have left you a messwe have left you no time to correct the damage, no path to change the course, alea iacta est, the tipping point is past, we will become extinct, and that we are the guilty ones”.

Is our world ending? Earth has unleashed a virus to punish mankind, the wanton depravity of our Ponzi consumption degrades the natural world” as mentioned in Tanka: Is our world ending is like a hit straight in the eye.  Your writing on A Doctor’s Dilemma, and Questions of the Virus, and Haiku: virus goes viral are some more masterstrokes which are worth mention.  Readers, please do read them.

The entire book revolves around environment.  Being a Writer and a Book Reviewer, I have never come across any writings dedicated only to one topic.  Geza, your efforts and thoughts you have so masterfully put across in this collection is like a SUDOKU for readers who will need to ponder every now and then, brain storm and arrive at some conclusion and begin to act.  Those small steps taken will bring in a huge difference and change in saving our environment and if we do this, all together, that I think can be the best way to thank you.

All the best, Geza, for future, and also to your Son, Nicholas for this amazing work and efforts he is already putting in.  May this wonderful book cross all boundaries and gain your bountiful readers so that your message travels far and wide.  Hope, I have been able to do justice in reviewing your book and giving the Readers a wonderful introduction of your work.

Regards,

Shubhaangi Kundalkar
