Words seem to be chosen carefully to present the proper blend of lines, the eloquence of prose. There is a harmonious balance certainly between the poems and prose that grace these pages.

Review by LB Sedlacek

This new book of poems is dedicated to Dr. Manijeh Khorshidi’s parents. What a sweet way to open up this book and to begin reading this symphony of verses written as poems and prose.

“Prompts of the Heart” dives deep into the human experience examining the emotional intricacies of dealing with one another. The poems and prose weave together a profound journey of sorts radiating the realms of loss, love, resilience, and those of self-discovery.

Words seem to be chosen carefully to present the proper blend of lines, the eloquence of prose. There is a harmonious balance certainly between the poems and prose that grace these pages.

Khorshiki has created a fascinating and picturesque book of poems. The poet writes with absolute presence.

From “The Map of the Other World”:

“Where can one find the map?

The map of the other world?

The world of meaning, that spiritual path?

If there is none,

why bother to get lost?

The searching soul asks.”

What sets this collection apart is Khorshidi’s observational abilities sharing ordinary moments in prose and poem. The language is rich, but also accessible. That makes this book one that many readers can connect with. Poems are image filled. The prose is lyrical yet understandable with an easy flow. It is the care of how each piece is placed within the book that really grabs the reader.

The book overall has a seamless feel. It takes courage to write with such authenticity and also with such vulnerability. The poems and these prose pieces will embrace the reader.

The author masters an awareness but also a wholeness to the complete book. The prose with the poems complement one another throughout the pages. The author’s style is unique and graceful.

The book has deep foundations. It offers up the potential for meaningful conversations and examinations.

It is refreshing to be immersed within the book while reading these verses or paragraphs. The book asks many questions, but also provides the answers or the potential of answers if that is what one is seeking.

The book is intriguing. It is also an interesting vision of what life may or can be. Nicely done!
